WHAT SHOULD I CONSIDER BEFORE BUYING A SHEET?

The type of sheet you choose depends on your particular needs. The mattress size, fabric, color, design, price, comfort, and ease of care should be factors in your decision. Selecting a sheet can be an exciting fashion experience!

IS 100% COTTON THE BEST CHOICE?

Sheets can be made from blends of cotton and polyester, or 100% cotton. Satin sheets are generally 100% polyester and offer a smooth silky feeling. Cotton sheets are softer and smoother than blends. They are resistant to pilling (the matting of fibers into little balls), and keep free from static cling. Since cotton is naturally absorbent and breathable, it is comfortable year-round.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF BUYING BLENDED SHEETS?

Blended sheets are very durable and do not shrink when washed. They also dry very quickly with less wrinkling and generally do not need ironing. They are often the preferred choice for juvenile sheets, and when convenience is a criteria for selection.

HOW DO FLANNEL SHEETS DIFFER FROM JERSEY SHEETS?

Flannel sheets are loosely woven for a soft, fleecy “nap”(texture). They are the perfect choice for cold weather because they keep heat in. Jersey sheets are knit, not woven. Knit fabrics are porous, allowing air to circulate for a more comfortable night’s sleep. Jersey knits also provide optimum elasticity and stretch recovery to ensure the best fit. Like your favorite T-shirt, jersey sheets become softer and more comfortable with wear.

ARE THERE DIFFERENT KINDS OF FITTED SHEETS?

Yes! A typical fitted sheet is designed to fit a mattress under 11”deep.If your mattress is over 12” deep you will need a fitted sheet with deeper pockets, or one that says the sheet is compatible with deep mattresses.

WHAT DO I GET IN A SHEET SET?

ANNA’S RETURN POLICY:

Packages that have been opened are not returnable. Please ask a sales associate for assistance if you are unsure about making a selection with sheets or any other items at Anna’s Linens.

WHAT INFLUENCES THE PRICE AND QUALITY OF SHEETS?

Generally, sheets with a higher thread count, a higher percentage of cotton, and better quality of cotton will be priced higher.

WHAT IS THREAD COUNT?

Thread count is the actual number of threads woven lengthwise and crosswise into a square inch of fabric. A higher thread count creates a tighter weave, a softer, more durable and more luxurious sheet.

Good - Sheets with a 160 TC (50% cotton & 50%polyester or 100% cotton) or higher are called PERCALE.

Better - Sheets with over 200 TC have a softer finish. (50% cotton & 50% polyester or 100% cotton)

Best - Sheets that are 250 TC and higher are termed LUXURY PERCALE or SATEEN (100% Pima cotton 350 TC, 100% cotton & sateen weave)

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO CARE FOR MY NEW SHEETS?

All Sheets: Should be machine washed with like colors using cold water.Tumble dry on a low setting, and avoid overloading to reduce wrinkling. Remove promptly from dryer; smooth out any wrinkles and fold while still warm.

Bleach & Fabric Softeners: Are usually not needed. Cotton releases soil easily, it will wash clean and smell fresh without the use of bleach. Over time cotton sheets will become softer with repeated washings and use without fabric softeners.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN VARIOUS TYPES OF COTTON?

Standard Cotton: Most products described as 100% cotton are generally made of standard grade cotton. This cotton produces a soft, comfortable and breathable fabric which keeps the body comfortable year round.

Egyptian Cotton: Egyptian cotton is a higher grade of cotton than standard cotton. It is a product of Egypt and features extra-long staple fibers. These long fibers result in a fabric which is softer and more durable. However, all Egyptian cottons are not created equal. Some are made from a blend of standard cotton and Egyptian cotton. Look for 100% Egyptian cotton for the softest fabric.

Pima and Supima Cottons: Pima cotton is a long staple cotton originally grown by the Pima Indians in Arizona. Well known for their farming, the Pima tribe then developed an advanced strain of cotton specifically for their master weavers. There are several types of Pima cotton, Supima is the highest grade of cotton grown in the US. Due to its long staple fibers, the Supima cotton, is quite luxurious, at the same time it is also one of the most durable of the cottons.
