The double-sided terry towel is the most popular towel because of its strength and absorbency.Velour: A velour towel is a terry towel where one side of the loops have been cut to create a smooth velvety feel. They are valued for their look and feel rather than their absorbency. Jacquard: A special loom is used to create a jacquard towel. It can weave a pattern into a solid color towel or weave multiple colors together into a pattern. Print: Printed towels have designs or patterns printed on a solid terry or velour towel. The print will only appear on the face of the towel. Embroidered: This is usually done on a terry or velour towel. The towel is put into a computerized machine which will embroider a design on several towels at once. Embroidered towels are generally used only for decorative purposes. An embroidered towel is also referred to as an embellished towel. | WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FEATURE IN A TOWEL?The fibers used to create a towel are the most important feature. Towels blended with synthetic fibers (such as polyester) are not as absorbent. A towel constructed of 100% cotton is durable and absorbent, however, a blended towel made with natural fibers (such as bamboo) is just as absorbent as a 100% cotton towel. The type of cotton is another important feature. The higher the quality of cotton, the more durable and absorbent the towel will be.HOW DOES THE TYPE OF COTTON EFFECT THE QUALITY OF A TOWEL?The type of cotton used when creating a towel directly effects its absorbency, durability and weight. Each of the types of cotton listed below will effect the quality and durability of a towel. Standard Cotton: When a towel is constructed with 100% standard cotton, it will be a durable and absorbent towel. Egyptian Cotton: Egyptian cotton is a higher grade of cotton than standard cotton, the fibers are longer and softer. When a towel is created with Egyptian cotton, it will be more durable, softer and more absorbent. Pima and Supima Cotton: These fabrics are considered to be the most luxurious cottons. The fibers have a long staple creating a more luxurious feel to the towel. Pima or Supima cotton will have a plush feel, and it will be the most absorbent and durable. |
WHAT SHOULD I CONSIDER BEFORE BUYING A TOWEL?The most important consideration when buying a towel is its use. What you would like to use the towel for directly affects the type of towel to be purchased. If the towel’s use is primarily decorative, you may want to choose a printed or embellished towel. However, if you are looking for a towel to dry off with when bathing, a terry towel, the most absorbent type of towel, would be a better choice.WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO CARE FOR MY NEW TOWELS?All Towels: Should be machine washed separately in warm water with like colors using a mild detergent. Towels will last longer if bleach is avoided. Tumble dry on a low setting. Remove promptly from the dryer and fold while still warm.Fabric Softeners: AVOID using fabric softeners. Fabric softeners are made of a silicone chemical. The silicone chemical in the fabric softener will coat the cotton fibers in the towel. When the fibers become coated with silicone they become water repellent rather than absorbent. High quality towels will remain soft for years without the use of fabric softener. | HOW ARE BATH RUGS CONSTRUCTED?They are constructed two different ways, either through a tabletop method or a yardage method. Both methods are similar, however the tabletop method offers better quality control because the fibers are sewn directly into the rug backing ensuring the fibers stay in place and last longer. The yardage method of creating bath rugs is similar to the way carpet is created. Once the piece of fabric is constructed, the desired size of the rug is cut out and the backing is then coated with a nonslip surface.WHAT SHOULD I CONSIDER BEFORE BUYING A BATH RUG?First determine the size of the area in the bathroom you would like to cover, as well as the amount of foot traffic in the bathroom. If the area is a high traffic area, you may want to consider the tabletop method because of the rug’s durability. Additionally, it is important to determine if the bath rug will be used when stepping out of the shower or bath. If it will be, the nonslip surface used in the yardage manufacturing method will minimize slipping.HOW DO I KNOW WHICH BATH RUG TO BUY?A Bath Rug: Is the name for all types of floor coverings used in the bathroom. Bath rugs typically come in rectangle, oval or oblong shapes. They are generally the same size regardless of manufacturer. Bath rugs offer warmth and comfort on a cold bathroom floor.A Bath Mat: Is a type of bath rug used specifically for absorbing excess water when stepping out of the shower or bath. A bath mat is designed to protect the floor from water damage as well as from slipping on a wet floor. A Contour Rug: Is a type of bath rug which fits snugly around the base of a toilet. This is a decorative rug which will complete a bathroom ensemble. A Toilet Lid Cover: Is a circular piece which is constructed to attach to the lid of a toilet seat cover. They come in standard and elongated sizes. This piece enhances the decorative value of a bathroom. | |
